Del has been in business
at his current location, 3311 23rd Avenue, Moline, for 17 years. He worked with
his father, Doyle, for ten years prior, giving him extensive knowledge and expertise in
all types of insurance.
Del hasn't always worked
in the insurance business, working for John Deere Harvester for 11 years before getting
laid off in 1981. He would work just six months in the next three years and then decided
it was time to make a change in his career.
"It's been a
blessing in disguise," Del said. "It forced me into a situation that I had been
considering for some time."
Since he started in the
business, he has won countless sales awards, including several honors in 2001: Honor
Ring Recipient, National Conference Winner, Chairman's Conference Winner, and Top Producer
in the greater Illinois territory for auto and property insurance. He's been an Honor Ring
winner for 17 consecutive years.
The firm keeps growing,
opening a new office at 1197 North Henderson St. in Galesburg, IL July 2000.
Del's son Derek has also
opened his own office at 472 1st Avenue in Coralville, IA June 2002.
Del resides in Coal
Valley with his wife, Doreen, and three of their children, Erin and Brittany Corbett, and
Deven Newton, who all attended Orion High School. Del is also active in the community,
serving as a Little League baseball coach in Orion, president of the Orion Booster Club,
as well as belonging to the Rock Island Elks Club, where he plays Santa Claus every year,
something he does to help a needy family during the holidays.
Newton says his
employees’ and associates’ are the key to his success. Jim Doran is an Exclusive
Financial Specialist who handles life insurance, investments and annuities for clients of
the firm. Christy (Carlson) Cox of Orion is Office Manager at the Galesburg office with
Jan Gavin of Galesburg as a member of the support staff. Lindsey Fair of Orion is a member
of the support staff in Moline with Teresa Hendrickx of East Moline serving as Office
Manager. The firm handles a full line of insurance including auto, home, business and
renters insurance as well as insurance for specialty vehicles like RV's.
