Baseball Nuts Report

Rock Island Baseball Team Tryouts Finish
Twenty One Selected for 2003 Season

The Rocks Varsity baseball team numbers 21 as tryouts ended and practice began at Augustana College on Wednesday.   Coach Campbell and his staff look forward to the challenge of replacing 7 senior starters with a good mix of seniors, juniors, and a few sophomores.

The set lineup of the past two years has been replaced with a great amount of competition for all starting spots. The key for the team is not who will be starting, but who will be finishing when the tournament rolls around. The Rocks will be led by 5 senior pitchers, whick gives them the most depth on the mound they have had in Campbell's four years.

A senior dominated outfield will carry the team through a tough non-conference schedule highlighted by games with Joliet Catholic, Normal West, Chatham Glenwood, Peoria Notre Dame, and a trip to Busch Stadium to play O'Fallon High School.
