After being undone by a seven-run Ottawa second inning in the opener of
Saturday's doubleheader, the Rock Island Rocks came back strong in the nightcap with a
12-run fourth as they split with the Pirates at the Rocky diamond.
Two-hit, three-RBI performances by
Marcus Youngquist, Jason Amble and Danny Morrison fueled the 5-3 Rocks' 17-hit output in
the second game, with winning pitcher Steve Mumma and Jake Vroman each collecting four
hits. Mumma also had two ribbies.
Rocky's 12-run outburst in the
bottom of the fourth came after Ottawa built a 7-2 lead, opening up with a three-run
first. In the opening game, the Rocks got three hits from Jacob Meisenbach and two
from Jim Wignall.
