Moline Dispatch Publishing Co.Rocks Split Pair At Metro Dome
Forget the fact that the Rock Island
baseball team left Minneapolis Wednesday with a 13-2 drubbing at the hands of Minneapolis
South High School. More importantly, they left with the memory of having played a pair of
games at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, home of the Minnesota Twins.
The Rocks managed a split in their
two games. They defeated Minneapolis South 6-4 in the first matchup on Tuesday.
Those two teams turn around and
play at Rock Island High School today at 2 p.m. That game will be followed by Minneapolis
South vs. United Township, also at RI's field, at 4:30 p.m.
Today's doubleheader will be a
prelude to the Western Big 6 conference schedule which starts Saturday. Rock Island will
host Galesburg and United Township will host Alleman, with both doubleheaders starting at
11. In the other Big 6 matchup, Quincy is at Moline.
In the second game against
Minneapolis South, Rock Island's Josh Walker took the loss in his first decision of the
season. On the bright side, though, Walker can say he toed the same rubber as Roger
Clemens, Pedro Martinez and other big-time, big-league hurlers who have played in the
Metrodome.
With the loss, the Rocks fall to
6-4. |
