   The
Rock Island High School Baseball Team will be traveling North this Spring Break to Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The Rocks Will be playing two 9:30 a.m. games at the Metrodome Tuesday April 10th and Wednesday April 11th against Minneapolis South.

Andy Campbell, Head Baseball Coach at Rock Island High School, announced today the 2001 baseball team will be going North for Spring break.

Minneapolis South will be hosting the Rocks at the "Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome" in Minneapolis, Minnesota April !0th and !!th at 9:30 am, for two days of  "Glorious Baseball".  Minneapolis South will then follow the Rocks to the Quad Cities and visit the Rock Diamond to play us at 2:00 p.m. and U.T.H.S at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12.  They will then travel to Dixon on Saturday for two games at 10 and 12.  Friday, the Minneapolis South players will practice at Rocky and enjoy some of our city's hospitality and attractions with their parents and coaches.

Coach Campbell states that, " Tom Green, an old friend of Tony Bender's (R.I.H.S. 85) when he played at the University of Minneapolis, called retired Rock Island Baseball Coach Gary Bender to inquire about coming here to play over their Spring Break.  He gave him my name and we talked trying to schedule games for them April 12 - 14".  Coach Campbell, a little tongue-in-cheek, mentioned how great it would be to play in the "Dome".   The Minnesota Twins play the 9th, 10th and 11th.  That Jeff Ecklund, Minneapolis South Head Baseball Coach stated would be rare, for a high school Team to play in the Metrodome, but he would keep us in mind for future years if something ever came up. This was on a Tuesday.

Wednesday  morning, he called to inform me that there were two openings at the Dome for the 10th and 11th.  Fortunately for us, Sterling and Peoria Notre Dame were gracious enough to reschedule and St. Cloud, MN couldn't play on the 11th so we got both dates.

Coach Campbell states that "without Coach Bender's work in the previous years, we never would have had this opportunity".   Should be a great time - the Twin's opening day is Monday night with Detroit and they also play on Tuesday, so there are plans for the The Rock Island Baseball team to attend a game.
