Frakes receive honors at University of Illinois

Two Quad-Citians have been named the top
scholar-athletes for their classes at the University of Illinois
J.J. Tubbs, an Illini football player and a Rock
Island High School graduate, was named the top scholar for the university's junior class
of male athletes. He had a grade-point average of 3.844. Tubbs also was the top male
scholar as a sophomore.
Erin Frakes, a women's track athletes and a
graduate of Rockridge High School, was the top female scholar for the sophomore class. She
had a GPA of 3.907.
In other Illini news, Moline's Matt Lackey, who
finished second in the nation in wrestling, was named as one of 10 finalists for the Dike
Eddleman Athlete of the Year Award. The award winners will be determined after completion
of the spring seasons.
Among those Lackey will be up against are
football's Kurt Kittner and basketball's Frank Williams.
