Time & place: 7:30 tonight at Quincy High School, after a sophomore game at
6.
Radio: WKBF-AM 1270.
Saturday: The Rocks are idle. Quincy hosts Cakohia.
Game notes: With both 2-2 in the Big 6, the loser can dash hopes of a share of
the conference crown. ``We get both Moline and Quincy at home the next time around, and
Moline and UT still have to play at Quincy, so this game is very important,'' said RI
coach Thom Sigel. ... Quincy is 7-2 since a 1-4 start. ... Quincy leads the all-time
series 45-30. ...
For the first time in two decades, the Rocks will witness the Blue Devils' lavish
pregame ceremony. ``We'l probably stay out and watch the stuff,'' Sigel said. ``I think
some teams it may affect negatively, but I think reason they've won down there is that
they're good, not necessarily because of the pregame.'' Retired RI coach Duncan Reid
always kept his team in the locker room during the pregame that includes a fire-spewing
torch in pitch dark. Sigel, by the way, has seen the Quincy pregame before, for five years
as a Galesburg assistant coach. ... About Reid not being there, Quincy coach Loren Wallace
said, ``To the players, it's no different. They don't care who's coaching. It's just Rock
Island. They've been talking about this being Rock Island week. (Reid) meant more to the
coaching staff, the administration, the fans.'' .. Quincy welcomes back from a two-game
suspension forward Tony Humphreys. He also had been suspended for five other games,
playing in only half of the Devils' 14 games. ... RI's Marcus McQueen may start if he's
recovered from an off-the-court injury that required stitches in his forehead. If he
doesn't, leading scorer David Wilson will get the call. Either way, Wilson and reserves
Grant Snyder (5.5 ppg) and Bryan Madison (6.9) should get plenty of floor time, with the
Rocks developing nice depth. ... The Rocks must bounce back from their worst loss of the
season, 72-52 to Moline last Friday. ``We can't self-destruct based on not playing well
Friday,'' Sigel said, ``because the five games before that we played well.''
